Mother’s Day is a celebration of love, nurturing, and the special bond between a caregiver and the ones they care for. For many of us, that includes our beloved pets. I’ve celebrated every holiday with my pups—Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day—and Mother’s Day is no different. My Favorite Time of the Year I may not have children in the traditional sense, but I am a mom. A dog mom. And it’s one of the greatest joys of my life.

Some people might roll their eyes or disagree, and that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to their own view. But I know the depth of love and commitment it takes to raise and care for an animal. I know the joy in meeting their needs, watching them thrive, and being their safe place. That, to me, is motherhood in its purest form.

This lifetime, children weren’t in the cards. Instead, it’s been the doggos. And honestly? I couldn’t be happier. Dogs have given my life color, purpose, and a kind of companionship that is deep and soulful. My boy Benji is part of my family, my heart, my everyday life.

So how do we celebrate Mother’s Day together? Just like any other holiday—quietly, joyfully, and with love. There are thoughtful gifts (Benji has great taste), good food, and most importantly, time. The kind of time where we pause, cuddle, go for a walk, or share a moment in the sun. It’s not grand or elaborate, but it’s meaningful.

I know that Benji’s time on this earth is shorter than mine, and I don’t take a single day for granted. These small holiday moments, like Mother’s Day, are reminders to cherish what I have while I have it.

So here’s to all the moms—those raising children, those caring for aging parents, those tending to gardens, and those loving their animals with full hearts. Whether you’re a mom to two-legged babies, four-legged furballs, three-legged wonders, or even feathery or scaly companions—you matter. Your love matters.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture, protect, and love unconditionally.
