As many of you know, this time of year is my absolute favorite. The light fades earlier in the evening, and there’s a chill in the air that signals the holidays are near. It’s a magical season that feels like a warm embrace, filled with traditions and simple joys. For me, there’s nothing quite like baking up a storm while holiday music plays in the background or sitting quietly in my living room, illuminated only by the twinkle of the Christmas tree lights.
Before I dive into all the festivities, I want to take a moment to reflect and thank each of you. This is my final blog post of 2024, and I feel so incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful community of readers. Your support, encouragement, and the love you’ve shown me over this past year mean more to me than words can express. Whether you’ve commented on a post, sent a kind message, or simply taken the time to read my thoughts, you’ve been a huge part of my journey. I truly couldn’t do this without you, and I am endlessly grateful.
So, what’s next for me as the year winds down?
Baking and reflecting, mostly. Baking has become a holiday tradition for me, and it always brings me so much joy. Every year, I convince myself that I’ll bake less. Spoiler alert: I never do. In fact, I usually bake even more. This year, my trusty Kanban board is filled with a detailed cookie schedule. It keeps me on track and ensures I make enough for friends, family, neighbors, and, of course, for Benji to sniff (but not eat).
That said, I’m intentionally cutting back on the busyness this year. I want more quiet moments—more time to soak in the holiday spirit and enjoy the days leading up to Christmas. And after the big day, I’ll be embracing my favorite end-of-year tradition: hibernating between Christmas and New Year’s.
For several years now, I’ve taken this time to slow down, reflect, and reset. It starts on Christmas Eve night after my big Italian fish dinner. With a full heart and belly, I curl up and think about all the blessings this year has brought me. I take stock of the memories, challenges, and triumphs, and I dream about the year ahead.
During this time, I also think deeply about what I want to carry forward into the new year and what I’m ready to leave behind. Some years, the things I’ve chosen to let go of have been big—massive, even. But there’s something so freeing about making space for what truly matters.
This quiet time has become sacred to me. It’s a chance to pause, to reflect on the past year, and to set intentions for what’s to come. It’s my way of ending the year on a peaceful note, and I encourage all of you to carve out a little space for reflection in your own lives.
As 2024 comes to a close, I want to thank you again for being part of my journey. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just joined recently, you’ve made this year so special for me. Your presence in this community is a blessing I never take for granted.
I wish you all a joyful, cozy holiday season filled with laughter, love, and everything that makes your heart happy. I’ll be back in 2025 with more stories, tips, and adventures to share. Until then, take care of yourselves, cherish the moments with your loved ones (both two- and four-legged), and savor the magic of this season.
Much love,
Joan and Benji
