The start of a new year always brings a sense of possibility. It’s the perfect time for resolutions, goal-setting, and a chance to become the best version of ourselves.

Every year, I set more resolutions and goals, and—let’s be honest—if I hit 40% of them, I’m doing well! I’ve attended seminars and trainings on how to set goals, break them down, and stick to them. I’ve learned a few key lessons along the way:

  • If you don’t make time for something and schedule it, it won’t happen.
  • If it’s not truly a priority, you won’t change.
  • And sometimes, it takes a major wake-up call to force real change.

This year, I’m ditching the rigid goal lists and focusing on how I want to feel. For me, that means prioritizing my health and well-being. My body has been begging for attention, and it’s time I listen. Taking better care of myself will naturally flow into spending more quality time with Benji, my loyal four-legged companion. After all, when we feel good about ourselves, it’s easier to give our best to others—including our furry friends.

Filling Our Cups—For Us and Our Dogs

You’ve probably heard the saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” It’s so true. This year, let’s focus on filling our cups—with love, self-care, and yes, dog smooches! And what better way to do that than by creating special moments with our dogs?

Here are some simple, joyful activities to help you feel good while spending quality time with your pup:

  • Outdoor Adventures: Fresh air and exercise do wonders for both you and your dog. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a hike, or a trip to the local dog park, moving your body and enjoying nature is a great way to reset. Plus, seeing your dog’s tail wag in excitement is an instant mood booster.
  • Dog Yoga (Doga): Yes, it’s a thing! Practicing yoga with your dog can be a fun bonding experience. Even if you don’t officially sign up for a class, rolling out a yoga mat at home and letting your dog stretch alongside you can be relaxing and entertaining.

  • Playtime Rituals: Dedicate 15-20 minutes a day to purely playing with your dog. Whether it’s a game of fetch, tug-of-war, or simply tossing their favorite toy around, playtime is an easy way to connect and de-stress.
  • Snuggle Sessions: Never underestimate the power of a cuddle. Curling up on the couch with your dog while watching your favorite movie or reading a book can be incredibly soothing.

Prioritizing What Matters

This year, I’m not chasing perfection. I’m focusing on what makes me feel good and what helps me grow. I want to enjoy the little moments—like Benji trotting beside me on a walk or snoozing at my feet while I journal. It’s in those small, intentional acts that we find real joy and fulfillment.

So, here’s to a year of feeling good, loving ourselves, and sharing that love with our furry companions. Let’s make 2025 a year of health, happiness, and wagging tails!
