I’m passionate about baking and cooking for my dog, Benji. Many human-grade foods can also be enjoyed by our furry friends—eggs for simple protein, green peppers, carrots, blueberries, just to name a few. However, it’s crucial to be aware of foods that are toxic to dogs. I will write more on toxic foods soon!
Here is a delightful recipe that’s safe and healthy for your pup (and you) to enjoy!
Peanut Butter Apple Cake
1 small apple grated
½ cup sugar free/salt free peanut butter (always check the ingredients and make sure your peanut butter does not contain xylitol as it is extremely toxic to pets).
1 large egg
1 teaspoon aluminum free baking powder
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a small cake pan or two wells of a cupcake pan and set aside.
(I like the 4″x2” Fat Daddios cake pan. You can find it on Amazon).
Add all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and mix thoroughly.
Spread mixture in the cake pan or divide evenly into 2 wells if you are using a cupcake pan.
Bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The 4” cake pan may take a bit more time. Check doneness at the 20-minute mark.
Remove from oven and cool for 2 minutes in the pan. Gently loosen the cake from the pan and cool completely on a rack.
Cut it into pieces and you and your furry friend can enjoy.
I love making this cake for Benji to celebrate his Gotcha Day. It’s a great way for us to celebrate the best things in life.
With a little love and care in the kitchen, you can share wholesome snacks with your beloved canine companion.
