I read my cookbooks like they are collections of short stories, transporting me to dreamy places like a small café in Italy or the pizza joint from my childhood. The scents of onions sautéed in butter, cookies baking in the oven, and pasta sauce simmering on the stove fill my kitchen with comforting memories. I have always loved to cook and bake.
When I get a new cookbook it’s like reading a collection of short stories with beautiful pictures and most of the time the history of the region the food came from. I think that’s why I like Nick Stellino on PBS because of his stories about food, well I just melt.
The holidays were always a special time for me. Heading to my grandparents on Christmas Eve to feast on the traditions of our ancestors was always a wonder. The feast of the seven fishes and the history behind the foods served by my Slovak grandma were fascinating. To have good luck throughout the year you had to eat sauerkraut on New Year’s Day. Oh, and you also had to sneeze too. We all made sure that happened. The more information I gather about food the more concerned I get.
As l walk through the grocery store and admire the colorful packaging, I realize that what I’m looking at is not food. It’s a mish mash of chemicals and sugar that resembles food. If you are wondering why we are an unhealthy society, well folks this is it. We have companies telling us what to eat and advertising makes this ‘food’ sound so very delicious but there isn’t much nutritional value which is why we want more.
What’s even more frightening is what manufacturers are putting in commercial pet food. Do you know what a meat by-product is? It can be anything from fat, to bones, to skin or even the droppings on the butcher’s floor, and who knows where it comes from. It’s not good and this is why dogs are getting sick.
My passion for cooking and love of dogs has led me to this blog. I want to provide a space where I can share my passion for cooking and baking as well as my love of healthy nutrition. I want to share all my knowledge about dogs. From grooming to training and all the fun products I have that keeps Benji feeling loved.
