When the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter, there’s nothing better than sharing a little warmth with your best friend.
The smell of simmering stew fills the kitchen, and Benji always knows it’s for him (he gets beef instead of chicken) — that tail starts thumping the minute he hears the spoon tap the pot. This hearty recipe is simple, nourishing, and perfect for chilly afternoons when comfort (and a few extra snuggles) are on the menu.
Cozy Sunday Stew
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken (no seasoning or skin) (or lean ground beef)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or coconut oil
- 1 medium sweet potato, peeled and diced (or 2 carrots)
- ½ cup peas (fresh or frozen)
- ½ cup green beans, chopped
- 2 cups dog-friendly bone broth (unsalted, no onion or garlic)
- Optional: a sprinkle of turmeric or parsley for added nutrients
Instructions
- Warm oil in a pot over medium heat.
- Add the ground chicken and cook until no pink remains, breaking it into small crumbles.
- Stir in the diced sweet potato (or carrots) and let them cook for a minute or two.
- Pour in the bone broth and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15–20 minutes, until the veggies are soft.
- Add the peas and green beans and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Allow to cool before serving — warm, not hot.

Mindful Moment:
Cooking for your dog can be a beautiful way to slow down and connect — to be present in the small rituals that bring comfort and joy. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to come from the heart (and Benji agrees).
