I can’t believe it’s already summer! On May 31st, I had the heat cranked because it was 64°F in the house and both Benji and I were cold—he was practically bundled up in his blankie. Now here we are on June 22nd, staring down a 98-degree day with a heat advisory. 🌡️ Be careful what you wish for, I guess! My garden is thrilled. Me? I’m clinging to my iced tea and praying for a breeze.
And with the Fourth of July just around the corner, I’m already thinking back to last year’s “festivities.” Fireworks started mid-afternoon and didn’t stop until 1:00am. Yes, 1:00 in the morning. Poor Benji was hyper alert with the noise, and let’s be real—I wasn’t thrilled either. Michigan legalized fireworks a few years ago, and while I love a good celebration, it’s gotten a little extra in my neighborhood.
I get it—fireworks can be fun. But when it starts on March 31st? (Yes, you read that right.) I had to shut that down real quick. Was I being a party pooper? Nope. I just don’t need Roman candles going off at 11:00pm because someone’s having a “creative” Friday night fueled by questionable choices. 😂
This year, I’ve got a new plan in place to keep Benji calm and safe. And while I’m not going to rewrite my whole “Fireworks & Fidos” survival guide, I am dropping a link to last year’s post below—it’s packed with tips, tricks, and a little humor to help you and your pup get through the noise.
🚨 Just a reminder: More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year. Make sure your furry family members are safe, secure, and microchipped.
Wishing you and your four-legged friends a safe and happy Fourth of July!
Tail wags,
Benji & Joan 🇺🇸🐾
