I had planned on writing about crate training, but after taking Benji out a few minutes ago, I felt called to write about taking care of your pet during the 4th of July festivities. A while back, I wrote about products to help keep your pets safe. The key to keeping your fur babies safe is being prepared.
Benji is not a fan of fireworks. I’m not sure if he would bolt if he got freaked out enough, but I don’t want to find out. During my first year with Benji, I got to know him well and noticed his aversion to loud booms.
As the 4th of July festivities started to heat up in my neighborhood that first year, I had Benji out for a potty break when the neighbors set off some small firecrackers. That was all it took! He raced back into the house and that was it. I don’t leave him alone during this time. I plan my schedule around the festivities, walk him earlier in the day, and we hang out together in the evenings. Why do I do this? Benji counts on me to keep him safe, and I will not let him down…ever.
More pets end up in shelters during this time of year. Let’s protect our pets and keep this from happening.
