When the days grow long and the sun feels a little too warm, it’s important to help our dogs stay cool and hydrated. Here are two of my favorite summer recipes that are simple, healthy, and always met with a happy tail wag.
Summer Pupsicles
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dog-friendly unsalted, low-sodium chicken broth (check out my bone broth recipe)
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (no sweeteners)
- A handful of blueberries or diced strawberries
- A few carrot sticks (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix chicken broth and Greek yogurt in a bowl until smooth.
- Place a few berries into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
- Pour the broth-yogurt mixture over the berries.
- Freeze for at least 3 hours.
- Serve outside or in an easy-to-clean space.
Frozen Banana Bites
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (no sweeteners)
- 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (no xylitol)
Instructions:
- Mash bananas in a bowl until smooth.
- Stir in Greek yogurt and peanut butter until fully combined.
- Spoon mixture into silicone molds or drop by the tablespoon onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Freeze for 2–3 hours until firm.
- Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
These treats are refreshing, hydrating, and a nice way to make summer days more comfortable for your dog. A little preparation can turn an ordinary hot afternoon into a cool, tail-wagging moment.
