What is an Elevated Dog Bowl?
When you think of dog bowls, you think of two bowls sitting on the ground. Elevated bowls are bowls that are raised off the ground. There are many benefits to having your dog’s bowls raised off the ground.
Benefits of Elevated Dog Bowls
Comfort while eating
Right now, grab something to eat, put your chin against your chest, and without moving your head, try to eat. Comfortable, right? Probably not. Having elevated bowls allows a more comfortable posture while eating. This can prevent stomach distress and improve digestion. If your dog experiences joint pain or has arthritis, it can prevent the discomfort of bending over to eat.
Helps with swallowing and digestion
Elevated dog bowls help with swallowing and improves digestion. Having bowls on the floor, they have to move food and water against gravity. Elevating bowls makes swallowing and digestion easier. While dog bowls are elevated, it can prevent too much air getting in the stomach which can cause bloat.
Fast eating is no longer an issue
Having an elevated bowl can slow down eating. Eating in a more upright position prevents gobbling which also helps with digestion.
Does your dog lie down when eating?
Your dog is trying to tell you something. If your dog is lying down to eat, it may be because their bowls are too low and it’s uncomfortable for them to eat standing up. Raise those bowls! Make your dog more comfortable when eating.
Sloppy eaters
Benji loved to fling food. Is your dog a sloppy eater like Benji? Having an Neater Feeder – Elevated Bowl can keep your feeding area cleaner. Bowls closer to their mouths will be less likely to make a mess. Do you have a water drooler? This will help with that too!
Prevent playing or pushing around the food bowl
It’s so cute when a puppy carries a food bowl around the house. When it’s full or food or water, not so much. Having an elevated food dish will prevent your dog from playing in the Ri9ghtbowl.
Picking the Perfect Elevated Bowl
There are many different styles, colors and sizes of elevated bowls to choose from. Not one bowl fits every dog’s needs. You also don’t want a bowl big enough for a Great Dane to have for your Chihuahua. In this case, size does matter!
To select the proper height for your elevated bowl, measure your dog from their shoulders to the floor. Depending on the size of your dog’s head and snout, subtract about 3”-6”. This will be a good height for your elevated bowls.
Pick an elevated bowl that goes with your style. Choose a dog safe ceramic bowl or stainless. Plastic bowls are porous and tend to harbor bacteria and chemicals in plastic can leach into your dog’s drinking water.
